The summer sailing season is quickly approaching and this is a quick update on the plans for this year. Our board has already met a few times since our Annual General Meeting, making sure that everything is on track for our summer season.

Of particular note: our Spring General Meeting will be held on April 7th, 1:30 – 4 pm, at the Granite Club. See details below.

Key Dates for the Summer 2018 Sailing Season

Spring General Meeting: April 7th, 2 – 4 pm, with social at 1:30 at the Granite Club, 99 Seagram Dr. in Waterloo. Great time to find out more details on what’s going on at the club this summer, and provide any ideas and suggestions and get ready for the sailing season.

Club Opening – Saturday, April 21stVolunteers needed for this year’s club opening. An e-mail will be sent out closer to the date. Also, a gentle reminder that the early bird membership discount ends at the club opening.

Warm Water Regatta, June 9th and 10thCome out for some fun in the sun at our Warm Water Regatta, and celebrate afterwards with a delicious Spanish themed dinner!! Training day and dinner are on Saturday, with the regatta held Sunday! We will be looking for volunteers to assist with hosting this event. More info at the SGM.

Start of Wednesday night races  – May 23rd 7:00pm start Come out and enjoy some friendly competition with fellow club members

General Open House – Sunday, May 27th Members from the University of Waterloo’s Sailbot team will be doing some trial runs with their autonomous sailboat in prep for competition. A good chance to see them in action, and wish them success.

Sail Past/Pirates Day – Saturday, June 23rdThis event is always fun for the whole family. So get your best water cannons ready to welcome your commodore to the board with style! Enjoy an evening sail and deck out your boat in some brilliant lights and enjoy a night cruise with friends and family for the summer solstice. Details to follow.

Laser Regatta New and still Tentative July 28th and 29th We will be looking for some volunteers and a Race Officer, and hopefully this can grow into a good event for the club.

All Arms Race – Sunday, July 29th

Club Championship – Saturday and Sunday, August 18th and 19th

Opti Poker Run – Sunday, September 2ndThis event was a ton of fun last year and the year before, so we’re bringing it back! We want to see all the Opti’s out on the lake this year for a friendly game of poker. We may also be adding a youth racing day for our sailing school campers, stay tuned!

Club Closing – Saturday, October 13thVolunteers needed for this year’s club closing. An e-mail will be sent out closer to the date.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at the Spring General Meeting on April 7th!

Come join us for the 2017 edition of our annual

Commodore’s Sail Past & Pirate Day!

on Saturday, July 1

  • Sail Past is scheduled to begin around 1:00pm
  • Mitch and RikkiRene are co-Commodores for the day, so this will be a great send-off for them.
  • After the Sail Past, the Commodores will try to defend the fort, while the cretins, wharf rats & low-lifes attempt to take it from them!
  • All manner of water cannon permitted! (but no hull contact!!)
  • After one side surrenders or gives up, Dinner will be pot luck salads and desert, with the club providing the burgers and sausages.

Thank you to everyone who made it out to our 2012 Commodore’s Reception and Annual General meeting.  We changed the format for this year’s event and we think the turnout shows just how popular it was. So thanks again to all the members, sailing school students, and parents that took time out of their Sunday afternoon to join us for our end of season event. On Saturday May 26 2012 we will be formally recognizing the donors who helped make the Club’s 50th anniversary dock upgrade a successful project. All club members are encouraged to come out and show support for the many donors and volunteers for the project. A special recognition will be given to the Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation, Kitchener Sports Association, Cities of Waterloo and Kitchener and the many other donors who made the replacement of the 40 year old docks a reality. Members from local City councils and staff and from the Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation will be in attendance. Ribbon cutting will take place at a 11:30 ceremony at the water front. We will also be launching our first new Narca 16 foot catamaran. In the afternoon there will be an opportunity to take guests sailing and introduce people to the sport. There will be a light lunch immediately following the dock launch ceremony.
