2012 Club Championships

We saved just enough water to hold the club championships a week earlier than usual. Both days were warm with temperatures in the high 20’s. Saturday started with light winds and finished around 10 to 15 km per hour. The breeze peaked above 20km on Sunday keeping the races exciting and the competitors cooled. Rookies Yvonne Kohlmetz, Luke Johnson, Peter Draper and Ed Szczepan did a fine job in their first regatta. Pat and Dwight Aplevich (pictured) were the victors. Race results here. The pot luck BBQ and Corn roast was well attended. Photo gallery of the two days is after the jump.

Topper Topaz Sails

Attention to all members. The sails for the topper topaz dinghies are being stored in the sail shed for now until the end of the season. Just so they stay out of the elements a little more especially the fall rain. The sails will be on top of the 420 sail in the sail shed.

Club Championships

Well with one week left of sailing school and only 7 days until the club championships regatta we still have water in the lake. The sailing school coaches have been doing a good job keeping the dock pushed out at its full length.  So let’s all take advantage of the water we have by joining in the club championship regatta. The Regatta is on the 25th and 26th of August, this coming weekend. It is a two day event that is concluded with a BBQ and corn roast on Sunday after racing. Everyone is invited to join the races and the BBQ. Even if you are not as interested in racing it is still a great day to come out and fill the lake with sails. If you are interested in coming to race and you would like crew or someone else to sail with reply and let’s put together some boats. I have spoken to a few people that would be excited to have crews to sail with.

The BBQ and corn roast is a pot luck event with the club taking care of the mains courses and the corn on the cob. If you plan on attending the BBQ please RSVP with commodore Ben so we can do some approximate planning. If folks bring along a salad and dessert for 8, everything usually works out perfectly with regards to quantities of food.

The Regatta will be Saturday (6 races) and Sunday (4 races) we are guessing the races will be a little shorter with the smaller lake. We will announce the courses and details at the Saturday morning skippers meeting 10:30. Could all the racers also RSVP early on in the week.
