Members


The Conestoga Sailing Club welcomes new members whether you are an old hand or wanting to learn to sail.  Members enjoy full access to the club facilities, and are also encouraged to join in on weekly racing, cruise nights, regattas and other social activities. Most membership types can use club sailboats, and Family members get discounts on lessons.

We currently offer six categories of membership:

  • Student (18-27)
  • Social
  • Junior (younger than 18)
  • Canoe/Kayak
  • University Sailing Team

Take advantage of the early bird membership fees (*) if paid in full by the club opening every April.  Starting on August 1st, (**) a reduced membership fee is available for the remainder of the season, or (***) you can choose to pay the full regular membership fee and the membership will be included for the following full season as well.

Family Membership

Our Family membership is for any single adult, couple, or individuals living at the same primary residence plus any children living at the parent’s/guardians primary residence.

  • This category of membership gives access to the club’s facilities, participation in any number of weekday races, training sessions and recreational sail days/evenings, and for trained members with CANSail 1 or equivalent, use of club boats.
  • Boat park storage space, during the summer, for one or two personally owned sail boats.  No motor boats allowed.
  • The member is accountable to provide appropriate insurance coverage for all stored boats and property.
  • Family membership category receives one vote per membership at general meetings. Members in this category can nominate candidates and stand for election to the board of directors.
  • As a volunteer run organization we also ask that members in this category complete at least 12 hours of volunteer work over the course of every season.

Student Membership

Our Student membership is for any full-time student between the ages of 18 and 27.

  • This category of membership gives access to the club’s facilities, participation in any number of weekday races, training sessions and recreational sail days/evenings, and, for those who have demonstrated a level of sailing competency (CANSail 1 or equivalent), use of Club boats.
  • Storage space, in the boatyard for personally owned boats, during the summer sailing months is included in this membership.
  • The member is accountable to provide appropriate insurance coverage for all stored boats and property.
  • This membership category receives one vote at General meetings. Members under this category can nominate candidates for the executive and have the right to stand for office.
  • As a volunteer organization we also ask that members in this category complete at least 6 hours of volunteer work over the course of every season.

Social Membership

Our Social membership is for any individuals who would like to participate in club social activities, and make use of Club facilities and amenities.

  • This category of membership gives access to the club’s facilities.
  • Social members can participate in club social activities, and spectate at club racing or regattas.
  • May not participate weekday races, training sessions and recreational sail days/evenings, and may not use the Club boats.
  • As a volunteer organization we also ask that members in this category complete at least 3 hours of volunteer work over the course of every season.

Junior Membership

Junior membership is open to those under 18 years of age. This membership category is intended for youth sailing school students who would like to use club boats and facilities outside of sailing school hours and are not part of a family membership.

  • This category of membership gives access to the club’s facilities, participation in any number of weekday races, training sessions and recreational sail days/evenings, and, for those who have demonstrated a level of sailing competency (CANSail 1 or equivalent), use of Club boats
  • Please note that junior members under the age of 16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian when using club boats and facilities.

Canoe/Kayak Membership

Our Canoe/Kayak Membership is for individuals who would like to store their canoe or kayak at the Club and make use of Club facilities.

  • This membership does not include access to Club sailboats. This membership category receives one vote at General meetings.
  • Storage space, in the boatyard or racks for personally owned canoe or kayaks, during the summer sailing months is included in this membership.
  • The member is accountable to provide appropriate insurance coverage for all stored boats and property.
  • Members under this category can nominate candidates for the executive and have the right to stand for office.  As a volunteer organization we also ask that members in this category complete at least 6 hours of volunteer work over the course of every season.

Laurier University Sailing Club/Team and University of Waterloo Sailing Club/Team membership

This class of membership is for  members of the Wilfrid Laurier University and University of Waterloo competitive sailing teams only. (others see Student membership)

  • This category of membership gives access to the club’s facilities, participation in any number of weekday races, training sessions and recreational sail days/evenings, and, for those who have demonstrated a level of sailing competency (CANSail 1 or equivalent), use of Club boats.
  • Storage space, in the boatyard for personally owned boats at the club, during the summer sailing months is included.
  • The member is accountable to provide appropriate insurance coverage for all stored boats and property.
  • As a volunteer organization we also ask that members in this category complete at least 6 hours of volunteer work over the course of every season.

 Winter Storage

  • All boats and other property is stored entirely at the risk of the owner. The club assumes no liability or responsibility for any personal property left on site.
  • The member is accountable to provide appropriate insurance coverage for all stored boats and property.
  • Any boats remaining on the property after club closing will be charged the winter storage fee
  • Storage is per one or two personally owned sail boats.
