COVID-19 Statement

We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience in this difficult time, and trust that everyone is staying safe. We are hopeful that we will still be able to enjoy a season of both teaching and enjoying sailing this summer.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, our Club will remain closed until we are allowed to open.

For Youth Sailing Camp and Adult Lesson registrants:

We continue to plan to hold our youth summer sailing camp and adult lessons this summer. If you would like to be assured a spot, please register. Should schedule changes be required because of COVID-19, we will let all affected registrants know as soon as possible. We will allow registrants to switch to a different session, or will fully refund any fees paid if accommodation cannot be met.

For Members:

An email will be sent as soon as we have any news about opening. Club opening will be the first Saturday after we are permitted to open.

If you must access the boat park to pick up or drop off a boat without feasible alternatives, please contact our Shore Captain to find out what is possible, when and how.

Club Opening delayed

Due to the current COVID-19 shutdown, the Sailing Club will remain closed until the rules allow us to open. We currently do not expect to open before May 9. Until this changes, no one is allowed to visit the club without approval of our Shore Captain. Watch this space for further announcements.

AGM 2019 and club social

Our AGM and Social will be held on this coming Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2:00pm at the Granite Club in Waterloo.

We have three major items:

  1. Firstly, Scott Ramsay and Les Sherratt will be giving a talk about their experience sailing in the Wayfarer World Championships in Ireland this past summer. This should be really interesting.
  2. Secondly, we have our club awards, always with some fun.
  3. Thirdly, a review of what we did this past summer and what we would like to do next summer, as presented by the board members, including our financials.

Everyone is strongly encouraged to come. There will be some snacks provided and drinks are available.

It’s really your chance to let the board know what we can do to improve the club and what we are doing well.

We have a few initiatives that we are looking for committee members for, and we are also looking for new board members.

  1. 2021 will be our 60thanniversary. We are looking for a team who would like to take on what we should be doing to mark the occasion.
  2. We are looking at purchasing a RS Venture sailboat for the sailing school and membership use. It’s a significant investment with significant benefits to the sailing school, the general membership enabling sailing for the whole family and those with mobility challenges. Again, we are looking for a few people to help out with this project.
  3. We are looking at building a sail shed in the boat park next spring, and need a few people to help manage the project.

About board members, we really need some members to join the board. It’s a monthly meeting during the winter, and some coordination of activities during the summer. We spread the work around depending on who has some time available, and there is always a lot of support. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you in advance, and I hope to be seeing you on Sunday.

Club Closing – Sat. Oct. 5

The sailing season is finally at its end. The days are getting colder, the water level is down, and it’s time to put everything away and batten the hatches for winter.

Our Club Closing is planned for this Saturday October 5, and we are looking for everyone to come out and help.

We will be de-rigging and putting away the boats and dollies, bringing in the docks, boarding up the windows, putting away tables and signs, cleaning up the grounds, and generally getting everything ready for winter. More hands make work light!

For detailed tasks and some tool suggestions, you can download the Task List document here: Closing-Day-v2018a.pdf

We plan to be finished around lunchtime, and lunch will be provided. We hope to see everyone there, with work gloves & footwear, and dressed for the weather!

Our Shore Captain Stephen Mercer will be there to direct all activities and answer any questions, as well as other board members & experienced club members.
